FullybiodegradableblendsofPLA/PBSwithdifferentcontentofhighlytailoredepoxyfunctionalstyrene-acrylicoligomers(EFSAO)werepreparedbyalaboratory-scaletwin-screwextruderat170℃.TheeffectofEFSAOcontentonthemorphology,mechanicalproperties,thermalbehaviorwasinvestigatedbymechanicaltest,DSC,andSEMrespectively.PercentageelongationatbreakandnotchedIzodimpactstrengthofPLA/PBS/EFSAOincreasedwithEFSAOadditionincreasedfrom0.1phrto1.5phr.However,tensilestrengthandmodulusvalueschangedslightly.TheresultofDSCthermogramsofblendsshowedthattheblendshadmorepartsofamorphousphases.Morphologyshowedagreatimprovedcompatibilitycomparedagainstthetwopolymerswithoutcompatibilizerwhichhadclearpartialphaseimmiscibility.Withthereactivecompatibilizer,PBSparticlesdispersedwellinPLAandchangedtosmallersize,suggestingthattheepoxyfunctionalgroupreactwith–OHbetweenPLAandPBS.Withtheimprovmentoftoughnessandotherproperties,thematerialwouldhavemoreextensiveapplicationsinthenearfuture.
