WedescribethesynthesisofPoly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/Water-solublenano-ZnO@claynanocompositehydrogel(PNIPAm/WS-nZnO@claygel)andcharacterizethemechanicalpropertiesofthisnovelnanocompositehydrogel.AndtheexistingformationofWater-solublenano-ZnO(WS-nZnO)withcationicsurfacewasdiscussed.PNIPAm/WS-nZnO@claygels)withdifferentWS-nZnOcontentallhavehomogeneousinternalnetworkstructure,butwithdifferentporesizes.TheabsorptionofWS-nZnOontheclay-smayhavestronginteractionwiththePNIPAmchains,i.e.,withtheincreaseofWS-nZnO,thetensilestrengthincreased,andtheelongationatbreakdecreased.Otherwise,thecompressivestrengthat90%strainalsoincreasedwiththeincreasingWS-nZnOcontent.BecausetheWS-nZnOparticlescanbeuniformlydistributedthroughoutthehydrogel,thetransparencyofthenanocompositehydrogeldidnotchangedsignificantlywiththeintroductionofWS-nZnO.
