Avisible-lightdrivenphotocatalyticfuelceII(PFC)systemcomprisedofCu20/Cu/Ti02-NTsphotoanodeandCuO/Ti02photocathodewasestablishedforprovidingaself-sustainedandenergy-savingwayforsimultaneouswastewatertreatmentandenergyrecovery.TheCu20/Cu/Ti02photoanodewassynthesizedbyinterruptedelectrodepositionfromaneutralsolutionofcoppercomplexontheTi02-NTswhichwasfabricatedbyapotentiostaticanodization.Polarizingtheelectrodeat-0.4VversusthestandardhydrogenelectrodewasneededbeforethePFCrunning.ACuO/Ti02photocathodecanbefabricatedbyimmersingtheCu20/Cu/Ti02-NTsintothebasicsolutionofsodiumpersulfateandthenannealingitat4500C.Thephotoelectrochemicalcharacteristicsofeitherthephotoanodeorthephotocathodewereevaluatedinathree-electrodesystemwithsaturatedcalomelelectrode(SCE)asthereferenceelectrode,platinumfoilastheauxiliaryelectrodeandtheelectrodeastheworkingelectrode.Theelectrolytewasa0.5MNa2S04solutionbufferedatpH7withpotassiumphosphate(0.IM)solution.Thegreatlyenhancedphotocurrentofthephotoanode(15vAcm-2)relativetoTi02-NTs(3.0vAcm-2)wasobservedunderchoppedAMI.5illumination(ioomWcm-2).ThephotocathodewassuperiortobareCu20electrodeinstabilitywiththeratioofthephotocurrentatthe20thandlstlightcirclegreaterthan95%01],whereastheratiobythelatterwasnearzero.Theopen-circuitvoltageofthePFCwasmeasuredtobelargerthan0.IVunderillumination,whichprovedthefeasibilityofusingthePFCforsimultaneouswastewatertreatmentandenergyrecovery.
