Thestructure,thermalbehaviorandflameretardantpropertiesofpolypropylene(PP)nanocompositestreatedwithcomplexflameretardantscomposedoflayereddoublehydroxides(LDH)andammoniumpolyphosphate(APP)/pentaerythritol(PER)intumescentflameretardantsystemshavebeeninvestigatedbyXRD,TEM,LOI,UL-94,andTGAanalysis.TheresultsshowedthatintroductionofLDHnanofillersintothesamplescanobtaingoodflameretardantsynergisticeffectswithAPP/PERadditivesatappropriateLDHloadings.SuchsynergismbetweenLDHandAPP/PERinPPmatrixcanbeexplainedbyaproposedcondensedphaseflameretardantmechanism.Andbasedonthisstudy,differenttypesofmodifiedPPproductsweredevelopedinaten-thousand-tonscaletobeusedfortheautomobileindustries,suchascarbumpersanddashboards.
