Toimprovethecompatibilityofethylene-vinylacetatecopolymer(EVA)andflameretardantofAl(OH)3,akindofMaleicanhydride(MAH)graftedethylene-1-octenecopolymer(POE)waspreparedbyreactiveextrusionintwin-screwextruderandfilledintoEVAasabridgebetweenEVAandAl(OH)3.TheeffectsofMAH,dicumylperoxide(DCP),electrondonoragent(EDA)andstyreneonthegraftingratioandmeltingindexofMAH-g-POEwerestudied.Theresultsshowedthatthemeltindex(MI)ofMAH-g-POEdecreasedwhilegraftingdegreeincreasedwithincreasingDCPcontents.Thehalogen-freefireretardant(HFFR)materialofEVA/POE-g-MAH/Al(OH)3(35/15/50)wasalsopreparedbyatorquerheometer.TheeffectsofDCPandMAHcontentsonthecompatibilityandmechanicalpropertiesofEVA/POE-g-MAH/Al(OH)3wereinvestigated,respectively.ItcanbeconcludedthatPOE-g-MAHwasaneffectivecompatibilityagentforEVA/Al(OH)3toimprovethetensilestrengthandelongationatbreak.TheoptimumeffectcanbeobtainedwhenPOE-g-MAHwaspreparedusing2phrMAHand0.15phrDCP.
