3Dorthogonalwovencompositeshavehigherdelaminateresistanceandimpactdamageresistancethanlaminatedcomposites.PMRtypepolyimidecompositesareadvancedhightemperaturepolymermatrixcompositesfrequentlyusedinavarietyofaerospaceapplications.Inthisstudy,3DorthogonalwovenfabricreinforcedPMRtypepolyimidecompositeswerepreparedfrom3DorthogonalwovenglassfiberperformsandPMRtypepolyimidematrixresin,whichderivedfrom4,4’-methylenediamine(MDA),diethylesterof3,3’,4,4’-oxydiphthalicacid(ODPE),monoethylesterofcis-5-norbornene-endo-2,3-dicarboxylicacid(NE).TherheologicalpropertyofthePMRpolyimidematrixresinswasinvestigated.Fromtheresultsofanalysis,atwo-stepimpregnation/hot-compressionmethodcanbeestablishedforthecompositesprocessing.Inthefirststep,the3Dfabricpreformswereimpregnatedwithpolyimideresininavacuumovenandheatedupto200℃fordegassingthevolatilesandby-products.Inthesecondstep,compositeswerecompressed.Theglasstransitiontemperature(Tg)andthedecompositiontemperatureat5%ofweightloss(T5)werehigherthan540℃and700℃,respectively.Theinternalstructurewasobservedbyamicroscope.Theresultingcompositesalsoexhibitedgoodmechanicalproperties.
