Freeradicalcopolymerizationofacrylonitrile(AN)withvariouscomonomersin1-buty-3-methylimidazoliumchloride([bmim]Cl)withazobisisobutyronitrile(AIBN)asinitiatorwereinvestigated.Thecopolymerizationkinetics,theconstitutesandthethermalpropertieswereanalyzedindetails.ThecompositionsoftheresultedcopolymerswereanalyzedbyElementalanalysis.Allthereactionsproceededfastinionicliquid,whilepolymerizationratevariedwithdifferentcomonomersunderthesamereactionconditions.In120min,alimitconversionofaround80%isreachedinthecopolymerizationexceptwhenN-vinylpyrrolidone(NVP)actedascomonomer.Polymerswithviscositymolecularweighthigherthan105g/molweresynthesizedintheusedionicliquid.Thermalpropertieswereanalyzedbydifferentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC).ItisshownthattheonsetsofcyclizationofthecopolymersexceptforP(AN-MA)shiftedtoalowertemperaturecomparedtohomopolymer,showinganimprovementofthecyclizationreaction.
